Saint Pauli. Our main act @ heart-stopping Zwischenstromball this year.

I listened to an interview with these two smart and funny guys and I can tell you right on: you´ll like, no, you´ll love them!

Saint Pauli aka Max and Ralf are knowing each other for already more than ten years. Originally coming from “the Schwarzwald”, they decided to escape from this small place and moved to Hamburg for making music. In the beginning they played in a few bands together, but soon they wanted to start their own music thing.

The first six years Saint Pauli hidden themselves in the studio – just to produce, produce, produce – before they went out in all the clubs and started with live-sets. Doing the DJing set in just a few years ago. So it´s kind of the other way around than in so many other cases.

What is more different between Saint Pauli and all the other masses of DJs out there?

First of all, they are not just laying down some beats. I would go so far saying that they have kind of a concept when they´re on stage. While one of them is spinning the records, the other one is taking care of the audience. How? – by e.g. putting on stupid big glasses, playing handcuffs, using the trumpet air horn – stuff like that. One of their main characteristics are the masks. The monkey masks.

Apparently they have a special relation to animals, because Saint Paulis first plan was to switch masks at every number. They already had got a giraffe and a wolf… but soon they found out thats a bit too much. So they finally stick to one. And the monkey was the winner.

Besides all this, secondly Saint Pauli said something in that interview I listened to, which is more important when you´re making music, than anything else. Next to the technical aspect, which is of course a necessarily one, they are primary “responding to the crowd, to the spirit of their audience and adapting their dj-set this way.” What a simple but genius plan!

All that remains to be said is

3-2-1…Saint Pauli!

In the following years he continous began to spin records under his new name – Krankypanky – especially in Vienna and Linz. With the change of the name there comes also a change in the sound – it’s between Electrohouse and Techno.

I am glad to present you the DJ of today – Mike Rigler:

5331_124091733892_79572213892_2534082_5297972_n

Experiencing the different types and meanings of „breakbeat“ Mike Rigler found his way through the jungle of dance-music by pushing sounds to the limit.

His first release, the „Lovesick&Dirt EP“ was published in 2008 on Parov Stelar´s „Etage Noir Special“ and soon gained respect and airplay and entered charts and compilations.

His ruff and pushing sound was later developed and after experiencing with live-instruments and singers Mike´s sound now is a organic collage with soul and funk attitude. His DJ-Sets, partly as Tour-DJ for Parov Stelar, and his soon to come live-acts are a precise but open extension to his studio work. Mike Rigler dropping a tune on the dancefloor guarantees enthusiastic dancers and happy faces.

Mike Rigler was born in 1981 and lives and works in Linz, Austria.

Just four more nights ;) – and finally it will be there – the Zwischenstromball 2009!

Among others, also Miss Andaka will take care of us with her tunes…!
andaka

Miss Andaka began to deal with DJing in autumn 2004. Because of her affection to music – especially to HipHop – she already had collected enough stuff at this time, to twist the records in different locations in and around Linz. (most of the time together with her school day friend and DJ colleague Papa Russ aka Poppa Large.) Her sets tell us the history of HipHop – with all its facets – from Soul and Funk until Electro and Brackbeat-Hit It!
